What is AI data work, and can you actually earn from it

What is AI data work and can I really get paid for it?

AI data work is producing and checking the examples an AI model learns from. It splits into three kinds: collection, which is capturing photos, audio or documents that do not exist online yet; annotation, which is labelling what is in that data; and evaluation, which is judging model output against a written standard. All three are paid work.

The short version

  • AI data work covers collection, annotation and evaluation.
  • No technical background or degree is needed for most of it.
  • What is usually needed instead is a language, a location or a domain that is hard to source.
  • Work is paid per task, per hour or per project depending on the brief.
  • Rates are shown in full before you reserve any work.
