How work is checked, what raises your standing and what happens when work is rejected.
It goes for review against the project's written instructions. A reviewer either approves it, sends it back for a fix, or rejects it with a reason. Approved work counts towards your earnings; the reason for anything else is shown to you.
A rejection always carries a written reason tied to the project's instructions, and you can read it on the task. The commonest causes are following a different convention from the one the project asked for, incomplete work, or output that does not match the specification. A rejection is a decision a person made.
You can ask for it to be looked at again, and a different reviewer will. Say specifically which part of the instructions you think was applied wrongly rather than only that you disagree, because that is what a second reviewer can actually act on.
Standing is a summary of how your work has gone: how much has been approved, how consistent it is and how reliably you finish what you reserve. It goes up with approved work over time and down with rejections and abandoned reservations. It affects what work is offered to you.
They are a mark of consistent approved work over time, shown beside your handle in the community. They are earned by doing the work well rather than applied for, and higher tiers see more work and some higher-rate projects first.
Badges record that you have demonstrated a particular skill, usually by passing an assessment and then doing that work to standard. They help match you to projects that need that skill.
Both happen. Some work is reviewed individually and some is sampled, and which applies depends on the project and on your history with it. Sampling does not mean unchecked: a sample that fails leads to more of your work being looked at.
Read the project's instructions fully before the first task and again when they change, follow the project's convention even where you would choose another, and use the report option instead of guessing when something is broken. Doing fewer tasks carefully is worth more than doing many quickly, because rejected work pays nothing and lowers your standing.
